I have always been attracted to the unseen, and this, together with my close connection to nature, has meant that the mysteries have always held a serious fascination. I was given my Thoth deck nearly thirty years ago now, but I never really took the time to give the cards the attention they deserved, having been subsequently seduced by the divine art of Astrology, a path that I have followed closely since that time. In recent years however, I have come to realize that in order to fully utilize my years of astrological knowledge, I must learn to honor my intuitive side.
In “true life” style, it was only a chance reading of an article that triggered the chain of events that has led me here today.
I had come to a place in my life where I felt backed into a corner. Professionally, emotionally, as a mother, a wife, as an employee and as an Astrologer, I felt like I was standing on the edge of an abyss, with nowhere to run to. By chance, I picked up an old astrology magazine that was in the bookshelf and opened it at random, and read an article that set me on a new path, a path that generally only happens to other people that I read about in books, not real people like me. The article was by an astrologer, who related in a clear way, her relationship with her art, and how it had led her deeper and deeper into details, in her search for understanding, until she had lost sight of the bigger picture. She could have been telling my own story, and it struck a strong chord, deep within me. The story also told of how she reconnected with her intuition, through learning to use the Tarot….. and of how she now used a combination of these two interrelated crafts and had never looked back. I liked this story….. it was one of those moments that explodes in your mind, the eureka moment when you see the long road of possibility ahead of you, and the abyss that was behind you ceases to exist.
Within days, I had set about finding a course… and I have not looked back.
My blog, Thoth Journey, is an exploration of the Thoth Tarot, the same deck that I was given all those years ago, describing the journeys that I have have experienced personally, through visions from the inner realms, as I travel into the cards themselves to obtain greater insight into the way that they work, as guides, teachers and companions on our path through life.
I believe that we build a connection with the cards over time, and that they help us to focus our natural intuitive abilities, in order to read the currents that are prevailing in ours and others lives. As with all things, practice makes perfect, and I truly believe that daily meditation and practice is the best way to develop as a proficient reader.
I am an active admin with The Tarot Foundation, helping to promote lively discussion every day, on their popular face-book page, The Tarot Readers Study & Development Group. I have my Astrological Consultancy site, Court Astrologer, where I offer Tarot readings, Astrology and Intuitive services.
I hope eventually to turn my blog into a book…. but that is all in the future, and who knows where that will be.
As a part of this project, the spread that I have designed is as follows
Because I am an Astrologer, I wanted to design a spread that incorporated Astrological thought in some way, so I came up with the idea of using the 3 modes. One way of dividing the 12 signs of the zodiac is through using the Modes- Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable, which very simply put, is Starting energy, Maintaining energy and Changing energy. I thought that this could be applied in terms of a Tarot Spread, when looking at how to go about something, something you have not started yet, perhaps a creative project, or challenging event.
Card 1: What will help or hinder me in the beginning of this project ? Where may I lack focus. What can I use to my advantage? How best can I prepare the soil for the seed?
Card 2:What energies are available to help me when things become difficult? Where will I meet difficulties in keeping the momentum going?. Where do I need to be strong?. How can I best grow this project. ?.
Card 3:Where may I need to be flexible and yielding in this endeavor, where may my approach or attitude need changing, where will fixed attitudes hinder me?
Thoth Journey is a work in progress, as I seek to understand the Thoth Tarot, as a representation of my own personal life path. It’s sister blog, The Thirteen Pentacles, is a daily exploration of the RWS system, in journal form, using the The Sharman Caselli deck.
I am looking forward to finally coming full circle……..As T.S Elliot wrote……
“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
love and light….
