New Moon in Taurus April 26th 2017: As You Sow, So Shall You Reap.

The New Moon in Taurus on the 26th April 2017, falls in the first decan (10 degrees) of this earthy and fecund sign, only a few days before the festival of Beltane, marking the beginning of summer in the ancient Celtic calendar. Beltane is half way between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice, and was traditionally celebrated with the lighting of bonfires and the movement of animals to summer pastures. In Irish mythology, the beginning of the summer season started with the Fire Festival at Beltane. These fires marked a time of purification and transition, proclaiming the season and signalling the hope of a good harvest later in the year.

The energy of this New Moon, relates to the importance of starting as you mean to continue. It tells us that it is not enough to vainly spread your seed without thought for the coming months, enjoying only the delights of what is on offer, and yet not considering the difficulties that a crop not nurtured may present. There is a prospect of labour here, and a reminder that a good harvest is hard won, and not merely the easy reward of a passing notion. There is a healthy abundance on offer, and the energy of this New Moon reminds you that the final reward comes as a result of patience, work, and with an understanding of what is involved in creating a thing of beauty and worth. There are fears here too, as depicted by the tarot card associated with this decan… The Five of Disks, but these fears are of our final fate should our crop fail, and not give us food to survive the winter that will inevitably arrive. New Moon Taurus April 26 17These fears accompany our lack of self belief, and the knowledge that it is all too easy to take our pleasure for its own sake, and be distracted from the work that we know is vital for the results that we seek. The key to the fertile and productive use of this energy, lies, I believe, in the knowledge that work and pleasure both have their part to play. There comes with this New Moon, a greater awareness of what really is worth cultivating, and what is best left alone, together with the insight of how the mere indulgence of passion, without the necessary commitment can only lead us into a state of want.   A powerful time to set new intentions, and more importantly to gain clarity and insight into what it really is that you want.
