Stars In My Eyes: Seeking Contact With The Divine

For me, Astrology has always been first and foremost an art form, a language that has helped me to interpret my connections with the rest of the cosmos. When I first discovered this fascinating study, long ago, in my youth, it possessed me with a fervour bohemiaand excitement that threw me into a maelstrom of avid learning; enthralling me for the majority of the next seven years! I felt that it was more of a reawakening, rather than a new revelation, as since I  had become fascinated with Greek mythology from around the age of seven, much of the Astrological material that I was reading, mentioned concepts and archetypes of which I was already familiar.

I had already read at length on various different philosophies, and explored, although not in depth, the tenets of several different religions, finding within them that the theories surrounding re incarnation resonated with me particularly. One book especially, called “The Only Planet of Choice” which is a series of channeled answers to questions put to a body of beings referred to as the “Council of Nine”, affected me particularly. Looking back now, from what was then my “far future”, I can see that even from an early age, I was in need of a belief system, and that through my own research, experimentation, revelations, and finally with the language and insight of Astrology, I managed to develop my own creed, one that suited me!

What I love so much about Astrology is the way it unites the earth to the cosmos. The medieval-astrologer-science-sourcewhole statement, “as above so below” permeates every strand of what is written, and through it I find my connection with the divine. I feel and see the Gods working in my life, testing me, loving me, honouring me, limiting me… and yet it is not a religion, there is no fixed code, no absolute truth, no book of law…. for the human being is the random piece in the jigsaw… we always have the final say….

As I have matured, Astrology has become a lifelong friend, one who explains to me what is to happen, and in greater depth “what has happened”, giving me much needed insight and the necessary healing if required. Astrology shares its wisdom with me, illuminating my path, a path that sometimes seems dark and dangerous, and gives me the foresight and faith that I need, so that I may travel on, with renewed enthusiasm and bravery.

Recently I was trying to explain Astrology to an acquaintance, who seemed only to perceive the divinatory possibilities of the art. I said that a horoscope was similar to a map, in that you could go to a foreign country without a map, and find all manner of wom1interesting things, just by hearsay, and wandering around; but, travelling map in hand, how much more of an insight into that country would you have! The mountain ranges would be marked, the main roads, the big cities, the deserts, the forests and the wildernesses etc. and that although a map wasn’t the country, one’s knowledge of the country would be greatly enhanced if one had, and understood, the map!!

Astrology has always been, and always will be, a very magical thing for me, it unites the mystical, the psychological, the spiritual, the scientific, the historical, the mythical, the divine and the unknown….. weaves it into a pattern that is unique, and then puts my name on it… a mandala that guides me ever deeper into a profound understanding of both myself, and the world in which I live.
