The Daily Oracle: Friday 24th November

“The poplar bears no fruit; yet without seed it brings forth suckers, for it is generated from its leaves. Splendid are its branches and gloriously adorned its lofty crown which reaches to the skies..”

23-Growth

16-Berkana
Growth, Rebirth, A Tree.

“Berkana, another of the Cycle Runes, Berkana denotes a form of fertility that fosters growth both symbolically and actually. The growth may occur in affairs of the world, family matters, one’s relationship to one’s Self or to the Divine.

A Rune that leads to blossoming and ripening, Berkana is concerned with the flow of beings into their new forms. Its action is gentle, penetrating, and pervasive.

What is called for here is going into things deeply, with care and awareness. First disperse resistance, then accomplish the work. For this to happen, your will must be clear and controlled, your motives correct. Any dark corners should be cleansed; this must be carried out diligently and sometimes with expert help. Modesty, patience, fairness and generosity are called for here. Once resistance is dispersed and rectification carried out and seen to hold firm, then, through steadfastness and right
attitude, the blossoming can occur.”

This month, The Daily Oracle will be devoted to the Viking Runes. I am not a scholar of this divination method, and as with my cycle with The I Ching, I will be using a combination of my own astrological observance, together with text from another authority. For my reference I will be using a book that I have had for very many years, “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum, which is still in print…. but also available on the web as a free PDF. As with The Tarot, I will be invoking my own choice of deity to watch over me as I seek guidance on behalf of all who find this oracle.  The Runes that I am using are ones that I have had for about 12 years, and which replaced my original handmade set, which were inadvertently left behind on one of my many migrations. These particular Runes are made of carnelian, and were purchased in a small bead shop on Catherine Hill in the Wiltshire town of Frome. If you wish to read about how the Runes were discovered, there is a good site HERE that is a wealth of information on all things Norse.

My name is Joanna Grant, I am an Astrologer, Tarot Reader and Writer, who lives on the Head Shot Fadebeautiful Beara Peninsula in the South West of Ireland. I can often be found at home, deep in arcane research, or practicing some new form of divination whilst burning the dinner! My children probably wish that I was “normal” but may well remember my eccentricities fondly when they come to face the challenges of their own paths. My long knowledge of Astrology leads and informs my practice, in offering guidance, empowerment and healing, helping others to lead a more authentic and magical life. You can read more about me here.
