Winter Solstice 2016

Today marks the Winter Solstice, or Yule as it is also known, and I would like to mark this festival today with a two card reading, “from darkness into light” to help us to understand what we have learned in the sign of Sagittarius, what we can release, and also what we can carry forward, to consolidate and build on, as the sun progresses into the cardinal sign of Capricorn. What knowledge have we really gained, and what of use may we take from it? As Mercury retrogrades back through Capricorn, into Sagittarius, it touches on issues that have already been ongoing for some time, and which will continue to be so until well into January, so there may be a feeling of going back over things a few times in order to “get them right”.

The cards that I drew, were Death (Scorpio) and The 9 of Cups (Jupiter in Pisces)

Drawing these two cards suggests to me that through allowing the passing of that which no longer serves us, that we can open ourselves to the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Happiness is a state of being that arises from within, and which flowers abundantly in the rich soil that Death bestows upon us. From the suffering, pain and loss that we endure, we eventually grow wise in the ways of the heart, and can allow our emotions a liberated freedom that releases us from the attachments that bind us in the past.

None of us know what the future will bring for certain, although we of the Tarot fraternity do our best to be guided by the wisdom that we find in the cards, and to use our knowledge to help others along the way. I will be continuing on next year in my own exploration of the inner worlds in Thoth Journey, and look forward to you joining me from time to time, as I walk in the distant places that I have come to know and love.

The Daily Thoth will continue, because as something that was inspired in the beginning by my desire to help a dear friend, it now seems to be inspiring others. So my connection with others grows day by day, which is its own beautiful reward, and as the day finally dawns, on this, the shortest day of 2016….. I step forward with all of you….. into the Light……

a blessed Solstice to you all.
