“If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.”
On June 5th 2020 the Full Moon in Sagittarius perfects in the 16th degree, the culmination of a six-month period that originated on November 27th last year, with a New Moon in Sagittarius. This Full Moon is an Eclipse, although not particularly visible as it is a “Penumbral” eclipse. This is a very subtle kind of eclipse which may appear like a darker-than-usual Moon. Sometimes there’s a very slight grey shading on one part of the Moon, but almost nobody notices it. It occurs when the line up between Sun Moon and Earth is not exact. More about eclipses can be found HERE
This six-month cycle has tracked the progression between the first and second decans of Sagittarius and is associated in the tarot with the Eight & Nine of Wands telling of visions of the future and the goals that we have been striving for.
The theme, rather than pushing ahead by force, has been to clear the way by pruning back the issues that have obscured your path. Hard work and patience have been necessary, and even at this juncture, it is unlikely that the final result is within easy grasp; there must still be one last final push. Like an archer with a bow, the perfect tension and focus must be achieved, in order for the arrow to fly true, and this also necessitates the patience to have your quarry in a direct line of sight.
This has been the necessary image for any projects over the last six months, indicating that the safe passage of a swiftly emerging and motivating vision, can only occur if the right conditions exist. Preparation is all, and finding the correct conditions to pursue your goal may well have been more difficult than you initially imagined.
I have used Tarot cards from the Alchemical Tarot by Robert Place, to illustrate the energy present in this decan’s Full Moon. The Sun (The Sun) and Temperance (Sagittarius) stand guardian over the Nine of Staffs (Wands), reminding us that patience and persistence are both required for the successful execution of the will. The vision may even morph and change over time, as the difficulties of the road reveal further challenges, the “alchemical fire” will transform the vision, and patience and time will reveal the flowering that was hoped for.
With the final decan of the ancient Egyptian calendar of 36 decans, coming to an end, we start a “New Year” at the Summer Solstice on June 21st, in this tumultuous and firey year of major planetary activity, where Jupiter Saturn & Pluto dance together all through 2020, from the last decan of Capricorn through to the first whispers of Aquarius. It really does feel like the dawning of a new age; yes there is fear, yes there is paranoia, yes there is greatly increased governmental power, yes there is an increased police presence on many of our streets, but the challenge is to get “beyond” this, rather than to stay within the prescience of George Orwell’s 1984. Against this backdrop, we can see which relationships are healthy, and which are not. Strong bonds will be strengthened by the difficulties endured, as a weapon is tempered in the fire, made stronger and more resilient. Weaker bonds are likely to suffer, especially where your allegiance or faith has been exploited or cast aside; a crisis often reveals the truth of a matter, and anything built upon shaky foundations is likely to crumble. Sorrow there will be, but also ultimately a certain freedom as the pain of loss is released, leaving room for stability to be eventually regained.
FULL MOON BLESSING:
In the glory of my fullness, I speak to you, revealing the truth as I see it at this moment. There are no secrets here, for if you are brave enough to look, all will be declared. Now it is time to turn away from all that is no longer fulfilling for you. I empower you to live your authentic self, to be unashamed of your fullness, to embrace your own power, to proclaim your true self, without fear. In Sagittarius, I Seek to know all that I can, to experience distant places, in all realms. I am a traveller of far off lands, which exist in earth, in fire, in air and in water. I learn, I gather, I expand my awareness; I delight in all new experiences. I constantly add to my store of knowledge and experience, bringing back tales of adventure and teaching. ©JKG
The Astrologers Diary
The Full Moon every month offers an opportunity to release old cycles, and as an Astrologer, I find it to be a useful exercise for myself and in working with others, to use the energy of each particular Full Moon, according to the Sabian Symbol that it falls on, together with the position in which it falls in the Natal Chart. Such considerations can be invaluable in steering through ups and downs, and in becoming “easy” with the ebb and flow of what life brings. This particular Full Moon also highlights the following Sabian symbol :
PHASE 256 (SAGITTARIUS 16°): SEA GULLS FLY AROUND A SHIP IN EXPECTATION OF FOOD. KEYNOTE: The easily acquired dependence of psychic desires upon the stimulation of social circumstances.
“Animals drawn into the circle of what human society produces find it easier to depend on man’s handouts than to pursue their usually difficult search for sustenance. The sea gulls here symbolize the more wild and normally untamable energies of the human soul, but they too can develop a land of domesticated dependence upon the by-products of man’s adventures within the realm of the unconscious (the sea). Natural instincts feed on the reactions, and often perversions, of the socially conditioned mind-ego.
This is the first stage in the process represented by the fifty-second sequence of five symbols. It shows us how nature can readily become subservient to man’s restless ambition to dominate the entire biosphere through an all-human planetary socioeconomic organization. This is a symbol of DEPENDENCE.

The current Full Moon in Sagittarius falls in the 6th house in my birth chart, and finds me cursing my small stature and advancing years, in my long standing struggle to try and achieve far more than really I am physically able to these days. Quite often finding myself feeling like this person on my left, from the Nine of Wands in the Rider Waite Tarot, I feel that I am on well known ground!! That being said the gargantuan task of filling 18 meters of raised vegetable beds, at a meter deep, is half way through, after just three days. My secret weapon has been the inspiring of some younger and far more able bodied relatives AKA “The Teens” … leaving me to plan, buy supplies, find long lengths of wood to line the beds (yes, like on the card!) and make sure there is plenty of food on the table for the hungry youth! Learning to use my strengths in a more body friendly way is a painful lesson for me this month!! 🙂
This kind of “house-keeping” engendered by the Moon’s cycle can be invaluable in keeping “on track” with life, rising to the inner rhythms, and flowing with the lunar tides. Knowing in which houses the Full Moon falls, and whether it is in close aspect with any planets in your chart can be an invaluable tool, along with the wider cycle of the Progressed Moon, for discovering the secret rhythms of your daily life.
