Saturn in Capricorn-All In Good Time

“The long unmeasured pulse of time moves everything. There is nothing hidden that it cannot bring to light, nothing once known that may not become unknown. Nothing is impossible.”

Sophocles

Words such as achievement, patience, organisation, control and ambition are bandied around when we talk of Capricorn. Cardinal Earth, symbolised by the Mountain Goat, or sometimes the Sea Goat. Serious, conservative, guarded, frugal and often calculating, Capricorn energy often gives an “old when your young, and young when you are old” kind of vibe, that matures and mellows with age. People with The Sun, or personal planets placed in Capricorn, are often physically attractive, and bear their age well… Capricorn women especially, are famous for holding onto their looks!

The mountain goat is an able climber, having the sure foot and the light step required to cling to the edge of a craggy hillside. This helps to provide an image of the Capricorn type. Capricorn has a long association with the archetype of the Father, as its opposite sign of Cancer has been thought of as representing the Mother. Reflecting this, Capricorn is concerned with duty and responsibility, and
is aware of rules and their application. There is often a careful observation of etiquette and protocol, as the public persona and reputation are very important assets. This sign is realistic and careful, and often finds a home in disciplinarian roles which allow for the cultivation of inner as well as outer authority. Capricorn must be
able to show solid results for effort made, so is unlikely to waste time on frivolous pursuits when there is money and a reputation to be won. Capricorn is able to approach life with a deep sense of patience, provided that positive action is being taken to improve conditions that are felt to be less than ideal. This is a sign of persevering ambition, which often does not feel fulfilled until it has reached the top of its chosen profession.

As Saturn enters its home sign of Capricorn, we can expect our lives to take on a serious tone, in whichever area of life is represented by Capricorn in your natal chart. It is in this area that we will be tested and assessed, it is here that we may feel examined or even judged.
Wherever you are most fearful in life is often where, too, you tend to work doubly hard to succeed, so wherever Saturn is, natally in the chart often shows where, in the end, we can gain mastery and become an expert and an authority. Saturn by transit will show the area of life where we will be receiving fresh challenges, where we are urged by circumstance to come up with new strategies and to learn “even more” more about a particular area. As Saturn takes 28 to 30 years to complete a cycle, looking back over what happened when Saturn was last in Capricorn, can give you the general flavour of “what will happen next”!!.
Saturn often shows where we’ve been, or feel we’ve been, denied or deprived, and, when we feel deprived of something, we may crave it all the more. It is therefore where we are prepared to work hard, slowly plodding on and building something worthwhile and solid, so whichever house Saturn will be transiting during its journey through Capricorn, get ready for some serious work.

father-time-by-edmund-dulac-circa-1906Saturn is of course the planet of maturity and old age. It signifies responsibility and describes where we are serious and careful and accept our duty. Saturn words are ‘ought’, ‘should’ and ‘must’. Because Saturn often represents where we come up against obstructions and obstacles of one kind or another, it can also help us with incredible self-discipline and application in overcoming obstacles, if we are prepared to work.

Whilst Saturn is in his home sign, we have, more than ever, the chance to build something of real lasting value and achievement, and there can be great rewards where Saturn is, but only if we stay the course and allow ourselves to go through the hard work, fear and doubt. The gift of Saturn is the mastery gained through application and work over time.
