Lust is a poor, weak, whimpering, whispering thing compared with that richness and energy of desire which will arise when lust has been killed.
Many of you will be familiar with the concept of linking numerology with Tarot. In order to get the underlying card for the year. In order to achieve this, you add the figures of the year, until you get a digit that can be aligned to a number
in the major arcana. In the case of 2018, it goes like this: 2+0+1+8=11…. which in Thoth or TdM terms (I always work in Thoth terms!) is associated with LUST, otherwise known as STRENGTH. We could also reduce this to 2 (1+1=2) THE PRIESTESS. In practice, these pairs work together, in this case for 2018 we have LUST AND THE PRIESTESS….. potent.
Last year’s card pair was FORTUNE and THE MAGUS… a year of powerful change for many people, where we were challenged not just to bow to the dictates of fate, but to harness the energy ourselves, to take the opportunities that were available, and to make the most of what was occurring, even if at the time it did not seem positive.
You can go a step further if you like, and add your birthday on to this, to get your own personal card for the year. LUST brings the opportunity to manifest an aspect of our birthright in the coming year, to bring ourselves more into alignment with who we really are, the hopes of the child that still reside within us. This very much reflects the energy of LUST, the card associated with the astrological sign of Leo, who represents the inner creative force, the divine child within, and the search for creative fulfilment. I often feel that the card Lust emerges, when we need to express our passion and authentic desire, our lust for life, to be unashamedly, beautifully, powerfully US… as we were born to be, connected to our own path, and coming ever closer into communion with the divine, something which is very much the remit of The Priestess, who is herself, a temple to the Divine.
At this time of year, we often reflect on the past, and muse upon the future, we wonder, as we have watched, and we look for signs, and for portents, to help us divine what will become of us, in another year. I offer no predictions here for 2018, that is covered in another post, out in a couple of days…. but in consideration of the energies I have discussed, I will offer a story.
“Once there was a man and woman who loved each other very much, in fact their love was so deep, that each saw divine perfection in the other. In each others eyes they saw the world of their souls were as one. In each other’s hearts they felt the rhythm of divine energy for they lived and breathed as one. In each other’s ears, they heard the same music, but in each other’s bodies they saw differences. The sameness that they felt did not need understanding, for it constantly filled them with joy, but the differences confused them. Neither of them knew whose differences were better, and soon the man and the woman began to grow self conscious. Their love was unchanged but the differences in their bodies began to make them think differently. They began to feel differently towards each other, and they began to act differently. Soon, the oneness of their experience with each other became clouded and obscured, and the sameness that they felt became overshadowed by the differences. Divine perfection was now hidden by the their own perception of imperfection. The man wondered if the woman’s body was truly the most perfect one he could experience, whilst the woman wondered the same thing about the man. Soon they began to magnify the physical imperfections they saw in each other, and then they magnified the emotional differences. Eventually they began to analyse their love for each other, and in time they could hardly see their love. The man sought out other women, and the woman sought other men, each one trying to find what was missing in the other.
For 12,000 years they roamed the earth. The man found many beautiful women, and the
woman found many handsome men, yet still in each person, something seemed to be missing. As time went by they grew weary and disappointed, their travels made their bodies weak, and their eyes no longer shon. Their hearts no longer knew what love was, for their disillusionment had brought them to despair. The ages of time, had worn away what they thought they were looking for, and they no longer remembered.
Then one day they met. They saw each other’s weary bodies and they looked in each others eyes, and they knew something that they never knew before. No longer could they see the differences between each other. Their eyes began to shine through tears of happiness, and in the blur of shimmering truth they saw through each other’s imperfections. In the humility that their journeys had taught them, had become the perfection of their love. The heavens opened with mercy, the clouds of confusion were gone and the sunlight cast its rays on the great treasure that they had discovered. Their weary bodies grew strong as they became One, once again, and from their oneness, their love blossomed into eternal truth.”
