You have power over your mind, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.
On May 6th, the Full Moon in Scorpio, perfects in the 18th degree, the culmination of a six-month period that originated on September 28th last year, with a New Moon in Libra.
This six-month cycle has tracked the progression between the first and second decans of Scorpio, and is associated in the tarot with the Five & Six of Cups, telling of passionate desires that seek to be saited. I often associate this card with the relentless cycle of addiction seeking to be appeased, where the ability to nourish and replenish the self has been lost, leaving one exhausted with life, unable to do much but to keep on in the same rut, the pattern of known comfort which anaesthetises and protects, allowing an escape from the fear of looking outside into the realm of change.
Self love is the key to breaking these repetitive cycles and this Full Moon offers the release that we may have been waiting for, the death of the cycle to which you may have been bound. This Full Moon offers the clarity required to see the truth of any habitually fearful or indulgent responses to life, allowing clear insight into the truth of how imprisoned you may have felt, to flood to the surface.
I have used Tarot cards from the Thoth to illustrate the energy present in this decan’s Full Moon. The Sun (The Sun) and Death (Scorpio) stand guardian over the Six of Cups, reminding us of the endless cycle of life and death, and how without death, life cannot begin again. In the Thoth deck, The Six of Cups is named “Pleasure” something that appears to be in shorter supply at the moment, but which on deeper examination, may actually be in greater abundance than we thought. The cards suggest the evolution of something new, out of the deathly darkness of the old; a piecing together of a new way of life, after the mourning of what has been lost.
It’s a year of major planetary conjunctions, Jupiter Saturn & Pluto dance together all through 2020, from the last decan of Capricorn through to the first whispers of Aquarius, and it really does feel like the dawning of a new age. Yes there is fear, yes there is paranoia, yes there is greatly increased governmental powers, yes there is an increased police presence on many of our streets, but the challenge is to get “beyond” this, rather than to stay within the prescience of George Orwell’s 1984. Against this backdrop, we can see which relationships are healthy, and which are not. Strong bonds will be strengthened by the difficulties endured, as a weapon is tempered in the fire, made stronger and more resilient. Weaker bonds are likely to suffer, especially where your allegiance or faith has been exploited or cast aside; a crisis often reveals the truth of a matter, and anything built upon shaky foundations is likely to crumble. Sorrow there will be, but also ultimately a certain freedom as the pain of loss is released, leaving room for stability to be eventually regained.
FULL MOON BLESSING:
In the glory of my fullness, I speak to you, revealing the truth as I see it at this moment. There are no secrets here, for if you are brave enough to look, all will be declared. Now it is time to turn away from all that is no longer fulfilling for you. I empower you to live your authentic self, to be unashamed of your fullness, to embrace your own power, to proclaim your true self, without fear. In Scorpio, I Desire; to give myself up to the perfect storm of passion and power. I am the yearning hunger of lust, of possession, of revenge, of sorrow and of pain. I am the highest of heights, I am the lowest of lows, all tempests are mine to behold and command. Drink from the peak of my exquisite pain; know both heaven and hell in my arms. ©JKG
The Astrologers Diary
The Full Moon every month offers an opportunity to release old cycles, and as an Astrologer, I find it to be a useful exercise for myself and in working with others, to use the energy of each particular Full Moon, according to the Sabian Symbol that it falls on, together with the position in which it falls in the Natal Chart. Such considerations can be invaluable in steering through ups and downs, and in becoming “easy” with the ebb and flow of what life brings. This particular Full Moon also highlights the following Sabian symbol :
PHASE 228 (SCORPIO 18°): A PATH THROUGH WOODS BRILLIANT WITH MULTICOLORED SPLENDOR.
KEYNOTE: The exalted feeling of a work well done and a truly consummated life.
The person who has lived with faith the transpersonal life — the life through which spirit radiates creatively — can experience blessedness and peace, even though his or her cycle of experience nears its end. It has been a life full of seed. The seeds are hidden perhaps, yet they are filled with the power to overcome cyclic death. The soul is at peace. The clear autumnal sky silently intones the great message: “Well done, little man!”
Due to the capacious expanse of the 5th & 11th houses in my birth chart, the current Full Moon falls again across this axis. Children, creativity and long term goals continue to be in the forground of my experience. With college approaching for my eldest, it is going to be a break from what has gone before!. Still focussed on my creative projects, I am being drawn ever deeper down the rabbit hole of Horary Astrology, now that I am half way through this current course. I just LOVE it… its the new love of my life, and has rekindled my passion for the stars, which I guess in itself is very much a 5th 11th house theme.
This kind of “house-keeping” engendered by the Moon’s cycle can be invaluable in keeping “on track” with life, rising to the inner rhythms, and flowing with the lunar tides. Knowing in which houses the Full Moon falls, and whether it is in close aspect with any planets in your chart can be an invaluable tool, along with the wider cycle of the Progressed Moon, for discovering the secret rhythms of your daily life.
