At 5 o’clock this afternoon, the planet Mars moves into Capricorn. Mars in the natal horoscope shows how competitive we are, and in which area of life we will express this in. Aspects between Mars and other planets, show the areas of life where we express our creativity, our desire to do battle, our need to be seen as a warrior. Mars symbolises our primal survival instinct, our aggression, assertion, muscular strength and sheer brute force, and the colour red, which is the colour of Mars, signifies heat and danger, functions of Mars that spur us to action and give us the will to survive. In times of danger, it is Mars that gives us the courage to defend our own territory.
Mars in the chart supports the Sun – it serves to direct the full range of our natural energies in the service of our solar purpose and goal. When our energies are directed, we can be focused and successful, but when they are suppressed or thwarted, it can degrade the Mars energy into something destructive or inappropriate.
In the body Mars is the signification for the immune system, since it is the part of us, physically speaking, which ‘fights’ illness and disease. It is possible to view depression and some illnesses in terms of an “afflicted” Mars, either through its natal position, or through transits to the natal Mars by an outer planet, where there is a suppression of anger, sexuality, libido, energy or life force and so on. In the body itself, Mars rules the blood, muscles, the head and the genitals. In the zodiac, the planet Mars traditionally rules the signs of Aries and Scorpio.
Passing out of the sign of Sagittarius where it has been since January, Mars now enters the sign of Capricorn, following along behind Saturn, giving the extra energy needed for those building projects that are underway. Unlike his long sojourn in Sagittarius, Mars will only be in Capricorn until September 11th this year, and will provide us with focussed energy and the strength to achieve what we want in the areas of life that are governed by Capricorn in our natal charts. Expect events, action and energy to enter the area of life where you have Capricorn situated.
When we combine the energies of Mars with Capricorn, we can come up with expressions such as: Patient action, Organised drive, Serious passion, Ruthless will, Frugal sexuality and Courageous ambition, to name but a few.
If things have not been going as you had planned, you are more likely to take action now, whilst Mars is in Capricorn, being brave and stubborn enough perhaps to shake things up and to clear out what is redundant. Matters that have been brewing for a while, under the influence of Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn will come to a head between now and September; take advantage of the energy, ride the wave, and be brave!
